THE RARE FIND

You know what's becoming really rare?

After eighteen years in real estate, I’ve learned that people love rare.

The corner unit. The south-facing backyard. The condo with the unobstructed view.

As Realtors, we’ve all said it.

“This one won’t last long.”

Sometimes we’re right.

Sometimes... six months later we’re quietly updating the listing and pretending we never said it.

We’ve all been there.

Maybe it’s a garage-kept ’90s Toyota Supra, Acura Integra, or Celica that somehow escaped being modified into a spaceship.

I’m not much of a watch guy, but I have friends who can spot a rare Rolex from across the room. Others get excited over vintage guitars, cameras, or old records.

We value things that are hard to find.

Which made me wonder...

What if the rarest thing today isn’t something we can buy?

Quiet.

And I don’t just mean silence. Silence is easy enough to find.

I’m talking about the kind of quiet that gives your mind enough room to think. To notice things. To ask questions you didn’t even realize you’d stopped asking.

Somewhere along the way, I’ve started leaving a little more room for that. I’ve been spending less time scrolling and more time reading, praying, and sitting with Scripture.

Not because I suddenly became super spiritual.

Trust me... that would’ve made a much better story.

Life is still busy. I still get distracted. I still reach for my phone without thinking.

But I’ve noticed how quickly we fill every empty moment. Waiting in line, sitting in the car, standing in an elevator... somehow we always find something to fill the space.

We don’t leave ourselves much room to think anymore.

And maybe that’s why quiet can feel a little uncomfortable. Because when everything slows down, we’re left with ourselves.

For me, that’s where something unexpected happened.

I wasn’t finding answers.

I felt like I was the one being questioned.

Questions about what I really trust. What I’m chasing. What it means to provide for my family. Whether my peace depends on knowing what’s next... or trusting God when I don’t.

I’m still wrestling with those questions.

And that’s really one of the reasons I decided to start writing again.

Not because I have life figured out. Far from it.

I just thought maybe it was time to start writing some of these things down.

Some will be about family. Some about homes, work, and faith. Some may even make you laugh.

I don’t know exactly where this Journal will go yet, and I think I’m okay with that.

But I hope it can be a place to slow down a little and think about some of the things we don’t always make time to think about.

I’m not really interested in giving you my answers.

Maybe, for a few minutes, we can just leave enough room to hear the questions.

These days, I think even that is a rare find.
